We’ve all seen food mold (or if you’re British…mould). Mold on bread usually appears as a
discoloration that we refer to as “going bad”.
We know instinctively that it isn’t
good for us so we get rid of it. How is
it then that so many of us are content to ignore mold when it pops up in other
places, such as our bathroom, where it appears in showers and tubs, or worse,
in our basement.
Touching or inhaling mold spores can result in allergic type symptoms such as sneezing, runny eyes, itching, and irritation of the throat and lungs.
To clean up mold, you should be sure to wear protective
clothing, most importantly, a filter style breath mask or, ideally, a respirator. This will prevent, or at least cut down on,
the inhalation of mold spores. Long
rubber gloves are also advised, as touching mold can have an irritant effect on
the skin.
There are a number of mold removal items on store shelves. In larger cases, you will want to
contact your local IICRC certified water damage restoration company. They can provide 24/7 mold remediation
service, as well as correct whatever water damage provided the basis for the
mold to grow in the first place.
