House Damage Issues

 House damage by fire or water is a horrendous experience, requiring thousands of dollars and hundreds of man hours to properly repair and correct.  It is usually a job that is beyond the abilities of mortal men (more commonly known as homeowners).

If your home has suffered damage and you’re wondering what to do, stop.  Take a breath, and proceed with caution.  Every city has numerous companies who claim to offer fire and water damage restoration, but the truth is that very few of them are actually qualified to do the work.  In many cases, the “company” is one or two guys who subcontract their work out to individuals who have no disaster recovery experience at all.  Choosing the wrong service provider can end up costing you thousands of extra dollars in repair bills.  So how is a homeowner to choose wisely?

You should look for a company that has been certified by the Institute for Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification.  For 30 years, the IICRC has been the unofficial, yet universally recognized governing body of the fire and water damage restoration industry.  They offer classes and certification in procedures and standards of care, and while the certification does not guarantee a perfect job, the consumer at least has the comfort of knowing the IICRC company has invested time, money, and effort into making sure their technicians know what they are doing, and are proficient on all the latest fire and water damage restoration equipment and techniques.

So before you hire somebody, do some research.  Ask questions.  Choose wisely.  And enjoy your home for many more years to come.
