If you are a homeowner, chances are you will have to deal
with some form of water damage during your tenure. Big or small, water damage can happen on a
scale that even fire cannot compare to, and prove twice as hard to clean
up. People who have experienced both
will testify, almost to a man, that they would rather clean up after fire as
opposed to water.
Most homeowners faced with a water damage problem look
around for someone to take care of it, to clean up the water and repair their
home. The problem arises when you
realize that out of all the businesses advertising water restoration,
only a small number are actually qualified to do the work. Hiring the wrong company will not only fail
to solve your problem, but it may actually make it worse.
You need to know what to look for in a water damage repair
company. Here are the four basic criteria
that MUST be met by any company that wants to work on the restoration of your
home:
Availability – they should be available 24/7, and able to
have someone out to your home at any time, even if it is 2AM on a Sunday.
Personnel – the personnel will be highly trained in all
areas of water damage restoration, and proficient on the latest water damage
repair tools and procedures.
Services – they will offer a full range of services
necessary to restore your home to its pre-loss condition, from water extraction
and drying, to carpet cleaning and mold removal, to structural repair and
restoration.
Certification – they should have a certification by an
industry leader, such as the Institute for Inspection, Cleaning, and
Restoration Certification (IICRC) or the Restoration Industry Association
(RIA). Certification tells you that the
company has devoted time, effort, and finances into getting their personnel the
best training possible.
So take the time and do your homework now, before you
actually have trouble, and secure the contact information for a local IICRC
certified water damage restoration professional.
